Zococamino Express is designed so that our travelers can live the Camino De Santiago in a low-cost way, that is, more economically. This means that it does not include several of the things that are normally included in our all-inclusive experiences, mainly Zococamino VIP – Camino De Santiago Walking and by Bike; for example, specialized route guide, picnics and supplies, support car, among others.
Arrival in Sarria/starting point, where you will immediately begin to notice the pilgrim atmosphere.
Sharing terraces with other people who, like you, will begin the pilgrimage the next day, people with whom you will surely share several days on the way.
You will spend the night in one of the best hotels in the city, next to the Oríbio river boardwalk.
Sarria is very close to the mythical and last 100 kilometers, the minimum distance that must be covered on foot to obtain the Compostela. This first stage will not disappoint either the first-timer or the seasoned pilgrim.
It offers countless villages in the municipalities of Sarria, Paradela and Portomarín, good examples of the Romanesque architecture, paved neighborhood tracks, rural paths and corridors, medieval bridges and rustic footbridges.
Tonight you will be able to share experiences with other pilgrims in the porticoed square.
The stage is divided by the Ligonde mountain range, which in turn divides the Miño and Ulloa river basins and the Portomarín and Monterroso municipalities.
Although the beginning is promising and presents a gentle ascent up Mount San Antonio, the rest is filled along modest, provincial and even national roads.
However, good examples of Romanesque churches liven up the trip, including the possibility of taking a detour to Vilar de Donas to visit San Salvador, old pilgrim hospitals and the valuable Lameiros transept.
Today all your effort will be rewarded, since today will be a stage of recovery.
You will recover from all of yesterday’s effort with a calm but beautiful day between corredoiras and small streams. The most important thing is that today you will have a very pleasant reward, today you will arrive at the town of Mellide, very famous for its “pulperias”. You will be able to taste the exquisite “octopus a feira” served on wooden plates and wines in clay cups, it will be a true party among many pilgrims.
After a good hotel’s breakfast, you will begin the day leaving the town by crossing a river through a bridge made of stone slabs.
From there you will go to Boente and its hermitage where you can make an offering to the saint and seal your credential. There’s a bit of effort left until you reach Arzúa, but we assure you that at the end of the stage all that effort expended will make you feel comforted with yourself.
At night there is another really good place for you to eat since Arzúa, the end of today’s stage, is considered the capital of Galician cheese.
Today will be a stage in which the fatigue in the legs is already noticeable, you will also feel the proximity to Santiago in your mind, but overall, it will be a comfortable route, with easier slopes and tracks.
When you less realize it, you will be in O Pedrouzo and just three kilometers away you will have the end of the stage in Amenal.
The walk becomes serene, on tracks of fallen leaves, among the last patches of eucalyptus and oak trees, the last villages arrive. Nostalgia comes becomes you don’t want this come to an end.
The municipality of Santiago sits on a slope, next to the airport, and leads the pilgrim through the parish of Sabugueira.
From the Monte do Gozo watchtower, the first panoramic view of Santiago de Compostela is obtained and an urban tour begins that ends at the foot of the baroque façade of the cathedral.
The Obradoiro is the end of and a new beginning.
After today’s breakfast buffet we will terminate our services.
We will have until 12 in the morning to check out, we can also leave our luggage in the hotel storage room and enjoy a good day’s walk through Santiago de Compostela, visit its famous fish and seafood market, visit the roofs of the Cathedral and go to the pilgrim mass at 12 in the morning.
