Andalusia: El Rocío Cycling Route

DETAILED ITINERARY

Arrival to Madrid
You can check in at the hotel from 2:00 p.m.
Our team will be waiting for you at the hotel restaurant at the scheduled time to welcome you.
Afterwards, we’ll enjoy a welcome dinner and briefing, giving everyone the opportunity to get to know each other and providing all the details and guidance for the following day.

Madrid - Córdoba
Early in the morning, a private bus will take us from the hotel to Atocha Station, where we’ll board the high-speed train to Córdoba.
Once in Córdoba, we’ll head to the Mosque-Cathedral to visit one of the most important monuments of Al-Andalus.
Afterwards, we’ll enjoy lunch, followed by free time in the afternoon to explore the narrow streets of Córdoba’s Jewish Quarter.

Córdoba - Ecija
After a buffet breakfast, we’ll get our bikes ready and begin the route, cycling through Córdoba, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We’ll follow the old railway line along the Greenway through the countryside, surrounded by olive groves and vast wheat fields.
Along the way, there will be refreshment stops and a picnic lunch in nature.
“Écija is where Andalusia rises… quite literally, among Baroque towers and endless skies.”
We’ll spend the afternoon exploring the city and enjoying its bars and traditional tapas.

Ecija - Carmona
“Between Écija and Carmona, you’ll cycle through the purest Andalusia: open horizons, silence… and soul.”
Leaving Écija behind, we leave its silhouette of Baroque towers and enter a completely different landscape: open, endless, and peaceful countryside.
It’s a gentle day, with an easy, rolling route. As we approach Carmona, the landscape begins to transform, and one of the most spectacular towns in the province of Seville appears high above the plains.
Carmona is history, heritage, and a chance to slow down. Its walls, monumental gates, and panoramic views over the countryside make the arrival the perfect reward after a day of cycling.

Carmona - Sevilla
This stage takes us from historic Carmona, with its ancient walls and cobbled streets, to the heart of Seville, one of the most vibrant and iconic cities in Andalusia.
The route is gentle and easy-going, perfect for enjoying the Sevillian countryside as we cycle through olive groves and golden plains.
As we approach Seville, its characteristic towers and domes begin to appear, while the Guadalquivir guides us towards the historic center.
The arrival feels like a well-earned reward: lively streets, iconic landmarks such as La Giralda, and the unique atmosphere of the old town invite you to stop, explore, and celebrate the completion of the stage.

Sevilla - Lebrija
“From vibrant Seville to the countryside and history of Lebrija: cycling here means savoring Andalusia with every kilometer.”
After leaving Seville, with its Giralda and streets steeped in history and life, cyclists head into the most authentic Sevillian countryside, where olive groves, wheat fields, and orange trees stretch across an endless, sunlit landscape.
As we approach Lebrija, the town welcomes us with its unmistakable Andalusian character, historic squares, and traditional architecture. It’s a moment when the journey brings together nature, culture, and living tradition.

Lebrija - Sanlúcar
“From the heart of the countryside to the mouth of the Guadalquivir.”
Today’s stage is gentle, perfect for enjoying the feeling of freedom and the Andalusian landscape as we make our way towards the coast. The light changes as we ride, and the sea gradually comes into view.
In the afternoon, the journey takes on a premium touch with a visit to La Gitana winery in Sanlúcar, where you’ll discover the region’s winemaking tradition, taste unique wines, and learn about the history that connects these lands with the Guadalquivir River and the Atlantic.
It’s one of those special touches that turns the journey into much more than cycling — a complete sensory experience.

Sanlúcar - El Rocío
“From the marshlands to the endless horizon, crossing by boat and cycling along the beach, El Rocío awaits as the reward at the end of the adventure.”
One of the most special moments of the stage is the boat crossing, navigating the river channels towards the estuary.
Once we disembark, the most epic part of the ride begins: cycling along the beaches and dunes of Doñana, with sand, sea, and endless horizons as our companions.
Finally, arriving in El Rocío is the perfect finale. Its white streets, mystical atmosphere, and the sanctuary that gives the village its name welcome cyclists with a true sense of achievement and celebration. This stage is much more than a physical journey — it’s a complete experience of landscapes, history, and emotion.

El Rocío - Seville
After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll take a private bus to Seville’s high-speed train station.
We invite you to spend the day exploring Seville at your own pace, whether by taking a tour or visiting one of the city’s many museums.
From Seville, you can choose to travel on to other destinations in Andalusia, such as Málaga or Granada, or return to Madrid.

If you’re traveling as a couple, with family, or with friends, you can choose your roommate. If you’re traveling solo, we’ll pair you with someone of the same sex, who will share your room throughout the trip.
Please note that you’ll only share your room with one other member of the group. If you’d prefer a single room, we can discuss the additional cost.
Andalusia is a very popular destination, so single rooms may not be available in some of the towns along the route.
You’re welcome to invite your companion to join the trip. They’ll then be able to use our support vehicle whenever they need to rest or skip a section of the route. Our team will be there to assist and guide them, while you can enjoy the journey at your own pace.
Please note that this option is available with our Premium experience (Tailor-Made, price on request). If you’d like to discuss a Premium trip and receive a personalized quote, please contact us at info@zococamino.com.
You don’t need to be an experienced hiker. The route features balanced stages and accessible terrain, so a little preparation beforehand should be enough. Nevertheless, we recommend starting to walk regularly a few weeks before the trip to help your body adapt to the effort and make the most of the experience.
The most important preparation is mental. Be ready to enjoy a different kind of experience, share the journey with others, and discover the atmosphere of southern Spain, its nature, gastronomy, and traditions.
Each day, we’ll cover an average of approximately 10 to 25 kilometers, crossing rural trails, marshlands, pine forests, beaches, and open landscapes. The schedule and pace will be different from your usual routine, and we may encounter heat, wind, or sandy paths, all of which are perfectly normal for this type of adventure.
The itinerary has been designed with comfortable, well-balanced stages so that anyone with a basic level of fitness can complete the route and enjoy the Camino del Rocío with confidence and peace of mind.
If you’re traveling to Spain with additional luggage, you can leave it in storage at the starting hotel or at another location we’ll specify before the Camino begins.
To make your journey more comfortable, we recommend traveling light and bringing only what you need. You won’t need jewelry, formal or party clothes, an iron or hairdryer, towels, a sleeping bag, a large umbrella, or unnecessary everyday items.
Remember that we’ll be in Andalusia, where the weather is usually warm and sunny. However, temperatures can be cooler in the early morning and late afternoon, especially in spring and autumn.
Suggested packing list:
3 or 4 sports or breathable T-shirts.
2 or 3 comfortable walking trousers (long or convertible).
2 comfortable outfits for relaxing or exploring after each stage.
Comfortable hiking boots or shoes, preferably well broken in.
A second pair of shoes for relaxing.
Flip-flops for the shower or pool.
Technical or breathable socks.
Enough underwear for the duration of the trip.
Pajamas or sleepwear.
A sweatshirt, fleece, or lightweight jacket.
A lightweight rain jacket or windbreaker.
A cap or hat and sunglasses.
A small backpack for carrying water, documents, and personal items during walks.
A reusable water bottle or flask.
Basic toiletries.
High-protection sunscreen.
Personal identification and travel documents.
Any regular medication (if applicable, remember to bring your prescription).
A universal travel adapter if you’re coming from outside Europe.
For certain dates, especially in spring and autumn, it may also be useful to bring:
A lightweight waterproof jacket.
An extra warm layer for cooler mornings and evenings.
A buff or scarf to protect yourself from the wind or sun.
Our main advice is simple: travel light, bring comfortable footwear, and get ready to enjoy walks through marshlands, pine forests, beaches, and some of the most authentic landscapes in Andalusia.
Please note that lunch and accommodation on Day 9 are not included, as our services end when we arrive in Seville. From there, you can continue exploring Andalusia or return to your destination.
You may wish to bring some extra money for:
Meals and drinks not specified in the itinerary.
Upgrading to a single room.
Additional luggage beyond the allowance (one suitcase or backpack per person).
Visiting monuments or attractions not included in the itinerary.
Buying souvenirs or local products.
A parent or family member must be responsible for their care at all times and must never leave them unattended, even if the child chooses to rest in the support vehicle.
If your child has little cycling experience or lacks confidence on a bike, we recommend choosing the Camino del Rocío on Foot instead.
If your group has fewer than 12 people, we can fill the remaining spots with other travelers until we reach the usual group size.
Your group will need to travel on one of the scheduled departure dates for the Camino del Rocío on Foot.
If you’d prefer to travel on different dates or enjoy a completely private experience, whether as a couple, with your family, or with a smaller group, you can also request a quote for our Premium option.
The Camino de Santiago is a historic pilgrimage with a stronger spiritual dimension, a traditional structure, and official recognition that culminates in the arrival at Santiago de Compostela Cathedral. Many people undertake this journey as a personal challenge, for reflection, or as a search for inner meaning.
The Camino del Rocío, on the other hand, is a more cultural, social, and festive experience, deeply rooted in Andalusian traditions. Although it ends at a place of great religious significance, its essence lies in enjoying southern Spain: its landscapes, gastronomy, music, atmosphere, and the shared experience of traveling as a group. It is a more accessible journey, with generally gentler stages and a more relaxed atmosphere.
Both experiences take place in groups on scheduled departure dates, following a carefully organized itinerary designed to ensure safety, comfort, and a memorable journey.
We also offer the option of designing either route as a private or tailor-made experience. If you’d like to travel as a couple, with your family, or with your own group, we can adapt the number of days, the pace of the journey, and the activities to suit your needs.
These personalized experiences are available on request, as the price may vary depending on the dates, accommodation, activities, and number of participants.
If you’d like to plan your own tailor-made Camino de Santiago or Camino del Rocío with us, please contact us at info@zococamino.com.
Andalusia enjoys plenty of sunshine and higher temperatures than many other parts of Spain, especially in summer. That’s why our departures take place mainly in spring and autumn, when the weather is more pleasant and you can better enjoy the landscapes, walks, and cycling stages.
Between March and April, spring brings Andalusia to life. The countryside turns green, temperatures are mild, and the region takes on a special atmosphere, with traditional celebrations and nature at its finest.
From June to August, Andalusia comes alive with summer festivities. However, temperatures can be very high, especially inland. For this reason, we don’t schedule trips during these months, as our goal is to ensure everyone enjoys a comfortable and rewarding experience.
October and November are ideal months to explore the Camino del Rocío at a more relaxed pace. Temperatures become milder again, the landscapes change color, and the atmosphere is more peaceful — perfect for traveling as a group and discovering Andalusia at your leisure.
Contact us, and a member of our team will address your concerns and questions, ensuring that you have the best experience possible.
