Pilgrim Certificate
THE CREDENTIAL & COMPOSTELA
The pilgrim credential is a kind of passport that must be stamped at each stage of the route. It originated from the document issued in the Middle Ages, which served as a safe-conduct for pilgrims.
This credential is used as proof of passage to request the Compostela at the end of the pilgrimage.
With Zococamino, you won’t need to worry about these details. Your welcome kit includes the pilgrim credential, and we handle the Compostela’s presentation during the final gala dinner.

Our staff will be at the hotel reception at the designated time to welcome you.
Afterwards, we will share a dinner with a briefing to meet the other participants and provide the details for the next day.
We will take a walking tour of the city.

Arrival in Baiona
We will make the short journey from Porto to the border with Spain, in the cities of Tui and Valença do Miño.
You will have the chance to stamp your Pilgrim’s Passport for the first time at the Cathedral of Santa María in Tui. Just a few meters away, you’ll find the International Bridge that connects Spain with Portugal over the Miño River. In Valença do Miño, you can visit its Fortress and shop for souvenirs at its famous street market.
We will arrive in Baiona, where we will stay and visit the famous defensive wall and its beaches.

Baiona - Vigo
On the first day, we will begin walking. Throughout the day, we will be accompanied by the Vigo estuary and witness the local shellfish harvesting activity.
It will be a flat but demanding stage, with a constant sea breeze until we reach Vigo, the city known for driving the commercial dynamism of Galicia.
The stage is very flat, covering a distance of 22 km.

Vigo - Redondela
We will depart from Vigo, visiting the Old Town and witnessing the bustling activity of the city and the port of Vigo. We will continue along the coast, always staying close to the beautiful and productive Vigo estuary.
It will be an easy and enjoyable stage of just 15 km.
Without a doubt, we should visit the historic center of Redondela, the birthplace of navigators and fishermen.

Redondela - Pontevedra
You will cross the historic Roman bridge over the Verdugo River and ascend to A Canicouva along beautiful cobbled paths.
Upon reaching Pontevedra, you’ll discover its impressive old town, full of charming squares and narrow streets. The Church of the Virgen de la Peregrina, with its distinctive Shell of Saint James shape, will surely catch your eye.
This stage includes some uphill sections and covers 21 km. It will be an intense day, but we’ll have time to visit the beautiful provincial capital, Pontevedra.

Pontevedra - Caldas de Reis
After crossing the O Burgo bridge, you will begin a route along country roads through the Galician countryside, encountering small streams that are easy to cross.
The stage will include some uphill sections and covers 21 km.
It will be a day of continuous ascents and descents.

Caldas de Reis - Padrón
We will cross lush valleys in a predominantly agricultural landscape, with small villages appearing on either side of the Camino.
After crossing the Ulla River, which forms the shellfish-rich Arousa estuary, you’ll arrive in Padrón, land of renowned writers such as Camilo José Cela and Rosalía de Castro.
A short stage of 17 km, with some ascents and descents.

Padrón - Santiago
This stage will take you on a continuous ascent to the city, passing through small villages. Finally, you’ll catch a glimpse of the majestic Towers of the Compostela Cathedral before entering the old town.
We will complete this stage with great excitement as we enter Santiago de Compostela through the more modern part of the city, but soon we will reach our destination.
The stage covers 24 km of dreams.

Santiago of Compostela
After breakfast at the hotel, our services will come to an end.
We invite you to take a self-guided tour of Santiago, join a tour, or visit one of the city’s museums.

GALLERY OF MEMORIES
The Camino VIP Walking includes accommodation in double rooms with a private bathroom, where you’ll share a room with one person from the group each night (maximum of two people per room).
If you’re traveling as a couple, with family, or with friends, you can choose who you want to share a room with. If you’re traveling solo, we will assign you a roommate of the same gender, who will be your room companion throughout the trip.
Remember, you’ll only share with one person from the group. If you prefer a single room, we can discuss the additional cost for this option.
The Camino is a very popular destination, so it’s possible that in some locations, a single room may not be available.
The support vehicle is reserved exclusively for our walking pilgrims. Therefore, it is not possible to bring a companion who is not participating in the experience.
You can offer your companion the option to join the experience, and they will be able to use our support vehicle if they need to rest or skip a section. We will take care of accompanying and guiding them, while you can enjoy the journey at your own pace.
Please note that this option is available in our Premium Camino versions (customized, by quotation). If you’d like to discuss a Premium Camino package, feel free to contact us at info@zococamino.com.
To participate in this route and achieve your goal of walking 110 km, it’s important to be in good physical shape.
You don’t need to be an advanced hiker; a minimum level of preparation is sufficient. It’s recommended to start training one or two months before your Camino to avoid fatigue or muscle soreness during the experience.
If you’re not used to walking, you can begin a training program, walking an hour daily during the week and two hours on weekends, maintaining an average pace of 4-5 km per hour. Consistency is more important than walking long distances in one day and then stopping. We also recommend using the same footwear you plan to bring on the Camino.
The most important preparation is mental. You must be aware that you will be stepping out of your comfort zone and experiencing a different culture. You will also be sharing the journey with people from all over the world.
We will start early each day and walk an average of 20 km. Meal times will be different from what you’re used to, and we’ll spend most of our time in rural settings. It’s possible that we’ll experience rain, cold, or walk on wet terrain. But there’s nothing an adventurous mindset can’t handle.
The basic program includes paths with easy elevation changes.
Each pilgrim is allowed to bring one suitcase or backpack with a maximum weight of 23 kg, which will be transported from hotel to hotel. (If you bring more luggage with you to Spain, you must leave it in storage in Madrid)
To get used to the way pilgrims travel, avoid carrying unnecessary luggage on the Camino. You do not need: jewelry, books, fancy clothes or shoes, an iron or hairdryer, towels, sleeping bags, umbrellas, or wallets.

3 pairs of hiking or adventure pants
3 t-shirts
2 spare t-shirts and sports pants for rest and strolling
Swimsuit for the spa
1 lightweight long-sleeve t-shirt
1 sweater (cardigan, pullover) or sweatshirt (also for summer)

If you wish to plan a Premium Camino with us, you can contact us at info@zococamino.com.
For us, every season on the Camino de Santiago has its charm. The best time to do it depends more on your personality and travel preferences.
May and September offer pleasant weather and fewer tourists compared to the summer months.
Between March and April, Easter is celebrated with many religious representations, and we also get the first signs of spring.
From June to August, summer takes over, with warmer weather, although temperatures in Galicia are usually not as high as in the rest of Spain. There are more tourists, and the Camino has a livelier atmosphere.
October is the perfect month to experience a change of season and enjoy the colors of nature, the falling leaves, and the beautiful sunsets that autumn provides.

Contact us, and a member of our team will address your concerns and questions, ensuring that you have the best experience possible.
